Nonprofit donates $33,000 to fight pancreatic cancer

An area nonprofit struck another blow against pancreatic cancer recently by donating $33,000 to the pancreatic cancer research team at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Fund A Cure For Pancreatic Cancer, started by former Newtown Township supervisor Robert Ciervo, has donated $166,000 to the Jefferson team since 2009, Ciervo said. Fundraiser in Lower Makefield to fight pancreatic cancer

The annual Purple Tie Ball to benefit nonprofit Fund a Cure for Pancreatic Cancer will be held 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Nov. 15 at the township-owned Makefield Highlands Golf Club, 1418 Woodside Road. The nonprofit is chaired by former Newtown Township supervisor Robert Ciervo, who lost his father to pancreatic cancer.
